Abstract

The paper presents an experimental study to verify the effect of cutting regime parameters (cutting speed V, feedrate S, depth of cut t) on two qualitative norms: surface roughness and dimensional precision when turning SUS304 stainless steel on CNC lathe by carbide insert, which has been made in Vietnam. Targuchi technique in designing experiment and analysing results has been applied to define the contribution of cutting regime parameters on the norms. The results show that, the contributions of feedrate, cutting speed, depth of cut and noises to surface roughness (Ra) are 63.03%, 14.29%, 12.64%, 10.04%, in turn and the contributions of depth of cut, cutting speed, feedrate and noises to dimensional accuracy (the deviation between designation diameter and machining workpicee diameter ΔD) are 37.93%, 24.64%, 22.68%, 14.75%, in turn. Finally, by analizing experimental results, optimized cutting regime parameters with cutting speed of 123 m/min, feedrate of 0.04 mm/rev, and cutting depth of 0.7mm have been defined, that allow getting both surface roughness and dimensional accuracy
