Road deposited sediments (RDS) contain toxic metals which can pollute terrestrial as well as aquatic environment when these pollutants are mobilized during run-off. Assessment of toxic metals in RDS along streets in Hanoi was carried out. 17 samples were collected and analyzed for 9 heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Cd, Hg, Ni,Cr) and As using ICP-MS. Results showed that metal concentrations decreased in order Fe>Mn> Zn> Cr> Cu>Pb> Ni> As> Hg> Cd and RDS was significantly enriched by Hg and Cr. Geo-accumulation Index (Igeo) indicated that the contamination degree ranged from uncontaminated to moderately contaminated degree except for Hg and Cr. Potential Ecological Risk Index demonstrated that overall risk caused by metals ranged from moderate to very high risk. Hg and Cd are the major contribution of total risk
