Abstract

Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) is an international standard for digital television services and DVB-T uses the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which is the core of almost recent wireless communication technologies. DVB-T has some limitations namely large unused frequency bands called “TV White Space” (TVWS). One of the attempts to solve the problem of inefficient using spectrum is Cognitive Radio (CR). In this paper, we address the issues related to optimizing the spectrum assignment of CR system, when a CR system is using “TVWS” temporal frequency bands. We propose a very efficient assignment algorithm, making it specially suiable for well know communication SuperWIFI. In this paper we consider also some common filter namely Tukey, Elliptic and Rectangular in DVB-T as well as CR Transmiter. The effect of spectrum assignment and different filters on the performance of CR system have been investigated and evaluated in this paper under AWGN channel conditions. The results show that the proposed algorithm has low complexity but obtains higher channel capacity than that of some previous algorithms. Theory and numerical simulations show that the CR system used the Tukey filter to form the transmit impulse has a better performance in terms of channel capacity than that one used the Rectangular filter
