Utilization of Fractal Compression Approach for Intra Prediction in H.264 Standard

Fractal compression is an efficient technique for image and video encoding based on the concept of self-referential codes. In this paper, we propose to embed fractal image compression (FIC) implementaion into the intra-prediction in the H.264 video encoder to exploit this efficiency. Meanwhile the wavelet transform is adopted in this process for PSNR inprovement of the decoded images. The experimental results performed by Fisher’s method verified a prospective implementation of a H.264 video encoder for low-video bitrate applications.
